Hello World!
Diego and I began exploring the world individually long before we met so it’s not surprising that we share a dream to travel the world together. We hoped to take an extended honeymoon/sabbatical soon after our wedding in 2013, but life got in the way and we had to wait. Since then we’ve enjoyed a month in Colombia, several parts of Mexico, and a few jaunts here and there within the States, but short trips just haven’t satiated our desire to disconnect from the perpetual to-do lists and live life wide open.
Fortunately, the best things in life are always worth waiting for.
As we waited, we pinned our dream destinations to a crumpled old map that I mounted to foam core. We moved pins around, talked about potential routes, and tried not to fight about where we’d go first. A dear friend of ours, Rod, witnessed a lot of those discussions and named our blog thusly. Pushpins on a Map was born.
Perhaps backpacking seems a bit unconventional for a 39 year-old couple. Our culture says we “should” be raising our family and climbing the corporate ladder instead of selling our possessions and quitting our jobs, but we think it’s important to honor where we are in life and in marriage and for us, this is it.
