Irish Luck?

We visited Ireland twice for reasons that are not terribly interesting. The first stint was just 4 days and then we returned for another 10 days after our trip to Scotland. Now then, it’s Ireland so let’s talk about luck…

Luck of Danyelle

I don’t think I’ve mentioned that I had a bad run of luck with my health at the outset of our trip. I caught an upper-respiratory virus just before we left home that hung on with varying degrees of fervor for about 6 weeks. And while that’s also not terribly interesting, it helps explain why I spent our first 4 days in Cork holed up in our hostel. I decided to tuck my snot-nosed self into bed to kick the virus for good before heading to Scotland where I would expose baby Arianna to my germs. I rested until boredom brought sleep, and then I rested some more. I indulged in the Irish cure for cold-like misery (aka: hot toddies), and somehow I also got our blog up and running. Good times were not had, but here are some photos of Cork.

Luck of the Irish Diego

Meanwhile, Diego had a great time exploring the charming city of Cork. The story could end there, but this story is about Diego so it does not. While making idle conversation with one of my hostel roommates, I learned that U2 was scheduled to perform in Dublin the following evening. Now, U2 is one of Diego’s all time favorite bands and Dublin is their hometown. This was big y’all – we’re talking major wifey points here. And, again because it’s Diego, the sold out show had just one ticket that happened to appear for sale online, at face value, just hours before the concert. Diego’s summation, all nonchalant-like:

It was a fantastic show, one of the best I’ve ever been to. The concert was held in a packed out Croke Park Stadium and the stage was awesome. I loved their message of love, unity, and acceptance. They honored fallen and current soldiers, women, important members of society like the Irish President and Martin Luther King, Jr. The show celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree album so they played all the crowd pleasers. It was so much fun to sing along to some of my favorite songs surrounded by 80,000 fellow fans. I wish Danyelle could have come #husbandpoints.

My summation: it is good to be Diego.
